چکیده

MHD instabilities followed by minor collapses in the TST-2 plasma are studied. Precursors with toroidal mode numbers n = 1 and n = 2 localized in the plasma’s core become phase aligned so that their mode amplitudes strengthen each other at a certain spatial point. During phase alignment, the total mode amplitude on the soft Xray radiation profile does not show significant change, and a minor collapse occurs but does not terminate the discharge. This behaviour is similar to the results during a non-linear growth phase in three-dimensional MHD simulations [N. Mizuguchi et al., Phys. Plasmas 7, 940 (2000)]. However, predicted pressure-driven modes are not confirmed in these experiments.

Envelope Expansion with Core Collapse. III. Similarity Isothermal Shocks in a Magnetofluid

We explore magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) solutions for envelope expansions with core collapse (EECC) with isothermal MHD shocks in a quasi-spherical symmetry and outline potential astrophysical applications of such magnetized shock flows. By including a random magnetic field in a gas medium, we further extend the recent isothermal shock results of Bian & Lou who have unified earlier similarity isot...

Non-inductive Plasma Current Start-up by EC and RF Power in the TST-2 Spherical Tokamak

Non-inductive plasma current start-up by EC and RF power was carried out on the TST-2 device. Low frequency RF (21 MHz) sustainment was demonstrated, and the obtained high βp spherical tokamak configuration has similar equilibrium values as the EC (2.45 GHz) sustained plasma. Equilibrium analysis revealed the detailed information on three discharge phases: (i) In the initial current formation p...

Generation of Compressible Modes in MHD Turbulence

Astrophysical turbulence is magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) in its nature. We discuss fundamental properties of MHD turbulence. In particular, we discuss the generation of compressible MHD waves by Alfvenic turbulence and show that this process is inefficient. This allows us to study the evolution of different types of MHD perturbations separately. We describe how to separate MHD fluctuations into 3 ...

Study of MHD Second Grade Flow through a Porous Microchannel under the Dual-Phase-Lag Heat and Mass Transfer Model

A semi-analytical investigation has been carried out to analyze unsteady MHD second-grade flow under the Dual-Phase-Lag (DPL) heat and mass transfer model in a vertical microchannel filled with porous material. Diffusion thermo (Dufour) effects and homogenous chemical reaction are considered as well. The governing partial differential equations are solved by using the Laplace transform method w...

Self-Similar Dynamics of a Magnetized Polytropic Gas

In broad astrophysical contexts of large-scale gravitational collapses and outflows and as a basis for various further astrophysical applications, we formulate and investigate a theoretical problem of self-similar magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) for a non-rotating polytropic gas of quasi-spherical symmetry permeated by a completely random magnetic field. Within this framework, we derive two coupled ...
